5 Things to do with your kids this March Break

Looking for some fun activities to keep your child engaged during March Break this year? Here are 5 ideas that are easy to do, with very little preparation.

1. Crayon Rubbings

This is an oldie but a goodie. Just grab some blank paper and crayons. Then find some surfaces with interesting textures, think leaves, bricks or concrete stones, engraved items around the house, coins, flat bases of Lego or Duplo, wood or tree bark. Find as many as you can to give your child something to occupy them that will engage their fine motor and sensory skills.

3. Inspiration Sticks

Stumped for what to do? Feeling bored? Use this idea to come up with other fun ideas. Take some popsicle sticks and brainstorm ideas with your child of activities they can do when they get bored this March Break. Have them write down those ideas on the popsicle sticks. Then leave them in a jar or tin where they are easily accessible. The next time they feel bored they can take one out and voila, they have something to keep them occupied.

4. Get outdoors

Getting outside is good for you and your child - everything from vitamin D from the sun’s rays to the fresh air! Sometimes it’s difficult to get motivated to go outside but often once you do, everyone is better for it. Going for a hike can be a great way to get out in nature and engage your child. Check out all the parks and trails in Durham Region at durham.ca and find one near you.

5. Do a March Break Lego Challenge

Have your child take on the lego challenge. Each day in March Break they have to build 1 of the items on the Lego Challenge Board. You can download our challenge by clicking here.
