National AccessAbility Week

The last week of May into the first week of June is National AccessAbility Week.  This week is recognized each year at the end of May and will take place between May 29 to June 4. This week is an opportunity to celebrate Canadians with disabilities and raise awareness of the critical need for accessibility and inclusion for all in our communities and workplaces. We are making strides, but there is still work to do to remove barriers that people with disabilities continue to face.

National AccessAbility week was inspired by Rick Hansen’s Man In Motion World Tour: https://www.rickhansen.com/get-involved/national-accessability-week

Also, have you heard of "Red Shirt Day"? It is a day, during National Accessibility Week when people across Canada come together and wear red in schools, workplaces and spaces everywhere in order to create a visible display of solidarity for people and families living with disabilities, as well as to demonstrate their support and commitment to accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities in Canada. By wearing red on Red Shirt Day, Canadians are pledging to take individual and collective action to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society that honours and values the contributions of people of all abilities, in all aspects of life, in Canada. Red Shirt Day is celebrated in conjunction with National AccessAbility Week and takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility Week each year.
