Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Application Guide & Funding Checklist
Navigating the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) can feel overwhelming, but having a clear roadmap can help. This guide outlines the steps to apply for funding and a checklist to ensure you have everything you need.
Step 1: Confirm Eligibility
✅ Your child is under 18 years old
✅ Your child has a confirmed autism diagnosis from a qualified professional
✅ You are a resident of Ontario
Step 2: Register for the OAP
To begin, complete the OAP registration form available on the Access OAP Website. You will need:
✅ Your child’s Ontario Health Card number
✅ A copy of their diagnostic assessment letter/report
✅ Contact details for your family
Submit your completed registration form by mail or email as directed on the government website.
Step 3: Await Funding Notification
Once your application is processed, you will receive a confirmation letter. If your child is eligible for funding, you will be placed on a waitlist and contacted when funding becomes available.
Step 4: Access Available Supports
While waiting for core funding, your family may be eligible for:
✅ Foundational Family Services (caregiver training, workshops, and consultations)
✅ Urgent Response Services (URS) (for children facing significant emotional or behavioural concerns)
✅ Entry to School Program (for children aged 3-6 entering kindergarten or Grade 1)
Step 5: Use Your Funding
Once approved, families can use their OAP funding for eligible services, including:
✅ Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Therapy
✅ Speech and Language Therapy
✅ Occupational Therapy
✅ Mental Health Supports
✅ Respite Services
💡 Tip: Keep all invoices and receipts, as you will need to submit an expense report to the OAP to show how funds were used.
