Beyond the Label: A Workshop for National Accessibility Week

  • Abilities Centre 1 Jim Flaherty Street Whitby, ON, L1N 0J2 Canada (map)
Accessibility Week 2026 Workshop.

About the Workshop

Many barriers are invisible, and so are many disabilities, including neurodivergence, chronic pain, and mental health conditions. During National Accessibility Week, we move beyond simple "awareness" and toward responsiveness.

Join us for a 90-minute session where we explore how to build a community that doesn't just see differences, but actively responds to them.

What we will cover:

  • The Inclusion Spectrum: Moving from "being nice" to creating functional accessibility.

  • The Power of Humility: Learning why listening is the most effective tool for dismantling barriers.

  • Practice Scenarios: Hands on community exercises to practice shifting from a bystander to a responsive partner.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for anyone eager to build a neighborhood where everyone can thrive:

  • Curious neighbors and advocates.

  • Local business owners and leaders.

  • Community volunteers and organizers.

Accessibility & Accommodations

  • Language: Presented in Plain Language.

  • Environment: A sensory friendly space with adjustable lighting.
