It’s more than a feeling: How a shared purpose drives us to grow
As we mark the 40th anniversary of Lake Ridge Community Support Services (LRCSS), I’ve been reflecting on what it actually means to "go to work." We spend a massive portion of our lives at our jobs, and if those hours are spent in a place that doesn’t resonate with who we are, the days can feel heavy. But there is a transformative shift that happens when you find a team that truly matches your personal values. When your internal compass aligns with the mission of your organization, work stops being a series of tasks and becomes a place you are genuinely excited to be. Even on the toughest days, the difficult things become more manageable because you are grounded in a shared purpose.

That sense of alignment started for me with our mission. In the world of Applied Behaviour Analysis, it is easy to lean into the technicalities of the science, but at LRCSS, the mission is a living promise. We provide innovative, evidence-based therapy that is individualized to the evolving needs of the children, youth, and adults we serve. To me, that word "evolving" is the heartbeat of our work. It means we never stop looking for a better way to support someone, and we never settle for "good enough." This commitment to high-quality service is fueled by a vision of an inclusive community where everyone can thrive.
What truly keeps me here, however, is the culture of unmatched support. It is a rare thing to work alongside a team that genuinely cares about your success and well-being. The compassion we show our clients is the same compassion we extend to one another. In this field, the work requires immense emotional and intellectual energy, but those challenges don't feel overwhelming when you are surrounded by people who prioritize collaboration and respect.
